Early Learning Goals
At Lordship Lane Primary School, the Early Learning Goals (ELGs) provide the foundation for your child’s development during their time in Reception. These goals outline the key skills and knowledge children are expected to achieve by the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
We closely monitor each child’s progress through their individual online learning profile, and parents are kept informed via regular updates, including through our communication system, Tapestry. Below is an overview of the ELGs your child will work towards:
Area of Learning
|
Early Learning Goals |
Communication and Language | Develop attentive listening, clear speaking, and meaningful conversations with peers and adults. |
Personal, Social, and Emotional Development |
|
Physical Development | Enhance coordination, balance, and fine motor skills, including pencil control and tool use. |
Literacy | Learn to read simple texts and write sentences using phonics knowledge. |
Mathematics | Understand numbers to 10, explore patterns, and compare quantities. |
Understanding the World | Explore past and present, cultural diversity, and the natural world through observation and discussion. |
Expressive Arts and Design | Express creativity through art, music, movement, and imaginative play. |
We aim to nurture well-rounded individuals ready to thrive in their educational journey. If you have any questions about the Early Learning Goals, please speak with your child’s class teacher or refer to the EYFS framework for further details.
